Advocacy Engagement Series

Advocacy Engagement Series 2

Create Great Policy | Advocacy Engagement Series
The May session of the Advocacy Engagement Series focuses on the business case for the expansion of the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act, and is presented in partnership with Equality Michigan and OutPro.

Michigan’s Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act of 1976 is an act to define civil rights; to prohibit discriminatory practices and policies in the exercise of those rights based upon religion, race, color, national origin, age, sex, height, weight, familial status or marital status.

Expansion of Elliott-Larsen to include sexual orientation and gender identity remains a key priority for the Grand Rapids Chamber. We believe everyone deserves the right to show up as their whole person in all aspects of their life, and we see this expansion as not only the right thing to do but the smart thing to do. Across the state, inclusivity is vital for Michigan to remain competitive while attracting and retaining top talent.

A new program in 2019, the Advocacy Engagement Series will help participants gain a better understanding of the business advocacy work of the Chamber while learning what it takes to run for office and how to lobby effectively. Insights will be provided from local and state experts on the issues and practice of advocacy to expose the tactics that can make a difference for your business.

Please do not hesitate to direct questions to Andy Johnston, Vice President of Government Affairs for the Grand Rapids Chamber, at johnstona@grandrapids.org.

Attendees are encouraged and invited to attend Politics & Pints immediately following at 4:30 p.m. Please click here for more information.
