Create Great Connections: West Michigan Minority Contractors After Hours

Join us this November for WMMC After Hours as we feature housing and community development construction projects happening in our city.

LINC UP, a community development organization located in Grand Rapids, will contribute to the conversation on developing an equitable community in West Michigan. This organization has a major focus on creating affordable housing and furthering diversity, equity, and inclusion in West Michigan through their work. LINC UP has a number of current projects in the works, with numerous bid opportunities available. See their developing projects and more details here!

ICCF, the Inner City Christian Federation will also be joining us to discuss equitable housing and share about their upcoming Tapestry Square Senior Living development breaking ground this fall. Read about some of their ongoing initiatives (Community Homes Initiative and Community Homes Land Trust) and find details about their future developments here!

The final featured speaker will be joining us from Rockford Construction to present on the Rockford Construction/Spectrum Health partnership and upcoming developments.

LaKiya Jenkins is a lifelong Grand Rapids resident, bringing a deep knowledge of the needs of its most disadvantaged communities. LaKiya serves as the executive director at LINC UP, an affordable housing and advocacy organization putting equity into action across Grand Rapids. LaKiya has served with LINC UP for the past 11 years and has held a variety of roles at LINC UP. Prior to taking on the executive director position, LaKiya served as the director of operations, and continues to serve on several committees and boards across the City of Grand Rapids.

Dante Villarreal is the Vice President for Business and Talent Development at the Grand Rapids Chamber where he oversees the Chamber’s Business Services, Talent Development, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs. Dante is active in the community and serves on several boards and organizations including the Family Business Alliance, the Downtown Market, Grand Rapids SmartZone, and Davenport University School of Business Advisory Board.

Staff 224Megan Steenwyk is the Business Services Manager at the Grand Rapids Chamber and also manages all of their WMMC programming. Megan is passionate about equitable economic development and currently serves as a leader on the Mayor’s NextGen Advisory Board for the City of Grand Rapids.
