ESOP Quarterly Meet-Up: What’s an ESOP, and is it Right for My Business?
Join the Grand Rapids Chamber on Wednesday, April 21 for the first ESOP Quarterly Meet-Up of 2021. Justin Stemple, partner at Warner Norcross + Judd LLP, will guide attendees through Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs) and address key areas including legality and human resources. Following his presentation, Shannon Burkel of AxiosHR and Charles Kroll of Crystal Flash will share their experience with employee stock ownership.

About the Speaker
Justin Stemple, Partner, Warner Norcross + Judd LLP
Justin focuses his practice in employee benefits law, with a special emphasis on ESOPs, and routinely represents ESOP companies and ESOP Trustees from the implementation of an ESOP, ongoing consulting, amendments and DOL audit, and termination of an ESOP or sale of an ESOP company. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, The ESOP Association, and the National Center for Employee Ownership. He currently serves as Chair of the firm’s Employee Benefits practice group and as an officer of the Executive Committee of the Michigan Chapter of The ESOP Association.

Shannon Burkel, Chief Client Officer, Axios HR
Shannon started her career with Axios HR, a 100% employee-owned human resources firm, in 2000. Shannon graduated from Western Michigan University’s Haworth College of Business with a bachelors in Human Resources and a minor in Psychology and completed her Master’s in Business Administration in June of 2012. She has been helping clients attract, retain and develop people for twenty years. Her focus has been on client and employee satisfaction as well as driving Axios HR sales growth through initiatives such as B2B and B2T marketing strategies, employee ownership, Talent Hub, and IMPACT. Her passion is to improve the quality of lives for the individuals, families, and communities she serves. Shannon is vested in making a difference.
Charles Kroll, Chief Financial Officer, Crystal Flash
Charles joined Crystal Flash in July 2017. In his role as Chief Financial Officer, he oversees Crystal Flash’s accounting, human resource, and supply departments, and plays a key role in developing and implementing the company’s strategic plan. Charles leads Crystal Flash’s ESOP efforts, including plan administration and compliance, as well as internal communication and education about the plan. He is also responsible for the company’s banking, insurance, legal, and accounting service provider relationships. Charles is active with the Grand Rapids Chamber and The ESOP Association.
