Meet the Speakers
Jill May | Nonprofit and Small Business Consultant, Trisector Consulting, LLC
Jill is a lifelong nonprofit professional, dedicated to helping make her community a better place to live, work and play for all. Jill has served in leadership positions for a wide variety of nonprofit organizations throughout West and Northern Michigan. In 2019, Jill founded Trisector Consulting to apply her expertise in leveraging the strengths of the three sectors – business, public and nonprofit – to develop scalable and sustainable solutions for our communities’ largest and most persistent problems.
As Jill was advancing in her career, she experienced many challenges in navigating the business world as a member of the LGBTQ+ community. In 2012, she co-founded OutPro, along with David Abbott and Rick Baker. She later went on to oversee its merger with the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce when it became the first mainstream chamber in the nation to offer an LGBTQ+ program. Jill is also a founding board member of the LGBTQ+ Alumni Chapter at Grand Valley State University (GVSU) and Our LGBTQ+ Fund at the Grand Rapids Community Foundation. She has spoken extensively on the topic of LGBTQ+ inclusivity, and is currently focused on bringing attention to the intersectionality between LGBTQ+ and race, disability, and other underrepresented communities, and the unique challenges people with these intersections experience.
Jill earned a master’s degree in public and nonprofit administration from GVSU and a bachelor’s degree in journalism and communications from Olivet College. Jill has been recognized as a Distinguished Alumnus by GVSU, and has been nominated for the Young Athena Award and Young Nonprofit Professional of the Year Award. Jill currently serves on the boards of Our LGBT+ Fund at the Grand Rapids Community Foundation and Up North Pride.
