The Dog Days of Summer
The “Dog Days” of summer are upon us! (Did you know? The hot, sultry days got their nickname because they coincide with the dawn rising of Sirius, the Dog Star.) If there’s one thing the Chamber team loves, it’s our canine companions. In honor of the Dog Days, we’re highlighting some Chamber members who can help you get your dog fix.
When you need to connect with other dog lovers
There’s nothing like enjoying a beautiful evening with your pooch and all his furry friends! Hosted by Nature of the Dog GR, the Community Dog Walks are free events held on the last Wednesday of each month. Neighbors, families and friends meet outside of Paddock Place with their pets – the lawn is full of dogs of all shapes, sizes and colors! After a 30-minute walk around the neighborhood (Have you ever seen a dog parade?! It leaves quite the impression!), the group meets back at Paddock Place for yard games, refreshments, dog toys, and occasionally even pupsicles! The next event will be held Wednesday, August 28 at 6:30pm.
When you need a trusted home away from home
As much as we’d like to spend all day with our dogs, it’s not always possible. When you need to be away from your pet, your furry family member deserves the highest level of care. This is where Dogtopia of Grand Rapids comes in! In December 2018, franchisee Tim Parker opened the first Dogtopia location in West Michigan in northeast Grand Rapids.
“Our mission is to create the most exciting day ever for pups, while giving their parents peace of mind while they’re away,” said Tim Parker. “Instead of being left alone at home or in an isolated kennel environment, Dogtopia provides an opportunity for our furry children to meet new friends, get exercise, enjoy playtime and have quality human interaction while at day care.”
The facility has open playrooms for supervised off-leash play, with dogs placed according to size, age and temperament. While the dogs have fun, live webcams allow owners to check in from any desktop or mobile device for continued peace of mind.
When you’re still searching for man’s best friend
Don’t have a dog yet? Find your furry soulmate on Saturday, August 24 at Woofstock! At this event, 20 Monroe Live will be partnering with local animal shelters and community organizations to showcase dogs available for adoption. This runway-style event will feature local heroes showing off dogs who are seeking their forever homes. Meet your future best friend while enjoying hits from various Woodstock artists. DogSpot at Bridge Street Market & Family Fare
When you need to make a pitstop with Doggo
If you’ve been to Bridge Street Market recently, you may have noticed the new additions outside the entrance – DogSpot! These temperature-controlled, lockable doghouses can be rented out for 30 cents a minute. Equipped with WiFi and a puppy cam for owners to keep tabs on their pet while they shop, DogSpot give owners an alternative to leaving Doggo in the car or tied up during a quick shopping trip. In addition to the two at Bridge Street Market, there is also one at the Family Fare on Lake Michigan Drive.
