Launch Michigan: A New Approach to Education

Local Advocacy: City of Grand Rapids approves budget - Considering medical marijuana.

The Grand Rapids Chamber is a proud partner of Launch Michigan, an unlikely collaborative centered around education and improving Michigan’s outcomes for all students. Launch Michigan consists of nearly 30 other organizations ranging from labor unions to philanthropy, business organizations, and state and community leaders.

This collaborative is a new approach to address our current education crisis, strengthen our workforce, and make Michigan a more prosperous state. Launch Michigan has recognized we will not be able to move forward until there is a concerted effort by stakeholders to work towards a common goal. By working together, we can do significantly better for every child and every school.

“Talent is top of mind for our membership. Michigan’s student attainment level ranks at the bottom of national lists; the stakes are high and we must increase student outcomes for a prosperous and thriving future” said Andy Johnston, Vice President of Government and Corporate Affairs. “Launch Michigan is in a position to tackle the education crisis Michigan is facing.”

Launch Michigan’s priorities include:

  • Listening to and supporting educators and working together to build a stronger education system for Michigan’s children
  • Supporting shared, statewide, research-driven strategies and sticking to these strategies beyond election cycles
  • Supporting a fair and comprehensive accountability system that includes everyone who influences education- not just teachers
  • Elevating public awareness about the current state of education in Michigan

Continued, united work from a wide range of stakeholders is crucial. The Grand Rapids Chamber is excited to join in on this effort to boost educational attainment for our students.
