Partners Announce the Launch of Grand Rapids Fitness Fest

Partners Announce the Launch of Grand Rapids Fitness Fest 1Outdoor classes will be held throughout the City from April 30 through May 9

Grand Rapids, Michigan – A collaborative group of partners including the Grand Rapids Chamber, City of Grand Rapids, Experience Grand Rapids, Downtown Grand Rapids Inc., and SweatNET Grand Rapids announced the upcoming Grand Rapids Fitness Fest at the end of April.

The event will include dozens of local gyms and fitness entrepreneurs at parks throughout the City with multiple offerings throughout the day. A $20 pass that provides unlimited access to all events, as well as the kick-off event, will be available starting April 12 at www.GRFitnessFest.com. Drop-in options will be available in limited quantities, but we strongly encourage people to get the pass and sign up early!

There is no cost for the providers to conduct their classes and the City of Grand Rapids has generously waived park reservation fees to keep costs down.

If you operate group exercise classes and are interested in providing programming, there may still be limited room, please contact Berlyn Buter by Monday, April 5.

All partners and providers will work closely to ensure that we provide this outdoor opportunity in the safest manner following all state requirements on crowd capacity, social distancing, and sanitation.

“Our community is at its best when it is active, vibrant, and together,” said Mayor Rosalynn Bliss of Grand Rapids. “We are excited to be able to offer our residents this opportunity to get fit while enjoying our beautiful parks and public spaces.”

“We set out thinking about fun ways to show off the many great parts of our City,” said Rich App, Retail, Retention & Attraction Specialist for the Chamber, City of Grand Rapids, and DGRI. “In addition to participating in the exercise programming, we strongly encourage folks to get out and enjoy the numerous social zones that have been a bright spot through this recovery.”

“We are filled with gratitude for this event and to celebrate recovery and hope. It’s time to renew and to discover something unique and healthy to do with friends or the entire family that makes our souls jump. Let’s face it, we’ve all had an extremely tough year. We’re excited to gather safely outside and celebrate life in the healthiest of ways,” said Marjorie Behm Owner/Founder of SweatNET Grand Rapids. “GR Fitness Fest is an inclusive event with something for everybody! There are multiple class offerings and recreational activities available, including dance, boxing, kayaking, health food trucks, and more.”

“This is a wonderful way to support physical fitness, small business, and outdoor activation as we transition to summer.  In addition to us being known as a river city, furniture city, art city, and beer city, we can create an additional identity as a fit city,” said Grand Rapids City Manager Mark Washington.
