Political Action Committee Announced Endorsements

Friends of West Michigan Business, the Grand Rapids Chamber’s Political Action Committee (PAC), announced its candidate endorsements for the Mayor of Grand Rapids and Grand Rapids City Commission.

The Chamber PAC works to elect highly qualified candidates and is funded only by the voluntary personal contributions of its individual members. The endorsements were decided by the PAC Board and required a two-thirds vote. The PAC evaluates candidates who seek endorsement by reviewing candidate questionnaires, interviews and past public service.

“The Chamber PAC supports candidates who understand the issues impacting West Michigan businesses and will advocate for policies that support economic growth,” said Chamber President & CEO Rick Baker.

“Strong local leadership has never been more important for maintaining the growth and vibrancy of our city,” said Baker. “Mayor Bliss has a tremendous record as a consensus-builder and is uniquely qualified to tackle the challenges ahead. We look forward to working with her to preserve and promote the collaborative spirit that defines our city’s success.”

“Commissioner O’Connor is a problem solver focused on moving Grand Rapids forward,” said Joshua Lunger, Senior Director of Government Affairs. “He’s an entrepreneur who understands the opportunities and challenges facing employers and has been a tremendous asset to the City Commission.”

“Milinda Ysasi has strong track record of working to support employers and employees in West Michigan. Her experience in the private sector, coupled with her community service, make Milinda the strongest candidate in the race,” said Lunger.

“Commissioner Moody is a proven bridge-builder with an extensive record of community service,” said Lunger. “We are thrilled he is seeking to build upon his work and seek a full term as Commissioner.”
