Giving You a Seat at the Table for Education in Michigan

Local Advocacy: City of Grand Rapids approves budget - Considering medical marijuana.

Advocating for policy that drives positive outcomes for our students is a top priority for the Grand Rapids Chamber. The Chamber recognizes that growing, attracting and retaining a diverse talent pool depends on an effective K-12 educational system.

Given our work, the Chamber is proud to play an active role in the newly formed Launch Michigan. Launch Michigan is a unique collaborative of representatives from education, business, labor, philanthropy and human service organizations that have come together to develop a long-term strategy to improve our educational system.

Michigan student performance is at the bottom of national lists.  The members of Launch Michigan know we can do better for every student and every school in our state.

Launch Michigan’s approach is one that recognizes we’re all responsible for the outcomes of our students. Because of this, we must be forward thinking and create a shared agenda that will outlast administrations and hold strong with the changing political climates.

The Chamber is one of twenty-two organizations that has a seat on the Launch Michigan Steering Committee. This Steering Committee is charged with the overall longevity of our goals and approving the workgroup’s efforts. There are four workgroups tackling key areas within education: educator support, accountability, finance and early literacy. We are excited to be a leader in this collaborative and eager to work together to find the commonalities that will help craft a shared agenda to boost student outcomes for all of Michigan’s students.
