Grand Rapids Chamber a Champion for Front Line Workers

Grand Rapids Chamber

Grand Rapids, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Chamber announced that it will serve as a Frontliners Champion to support the Futures for Frontlines program unveiled today by Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

As we work to position our region for a full economic recovery, the Chamber will focus our legislative priorities on connecting our workforce with opportunities to upskill and reskill. The Futures for Frontliners program is targeted, serving individuals who worked through the pandemic in essential industries.

“Many of the men and women we represent are front line workers. When the going got tough, they got to work and provided Michigan the critical services we all need during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Rick Baker, CEO of the Grand Rapids Chamber. “We encourage all who qualify to sign up today,” continued Baker.

As a Frontliners Champion, the Grand Rapids Chamber has committed to make sure members know about this opportunity.

“As we reimagine health and deliver on our mission to improve health, inspire hope and save lives, we are committed to developing a dynamic workforce for the future,” said Tina Freese Decker, President & CEO, Spectrum Health. “Organizationally, we support talent development, and the Futures for Frontlines program through the State of Michigan offers new opportunities for education, training and professional growth. This is another way of recognizing our team members who have courageously served our community with compassion and personal sacrifice through the pandemic.”

Michiganders without a college degree who worked in essential industries during the April 1-June 30 will qualify this free-tuition program to their local community college to pursue an associate degree or a skills certificate on a full-time or part-time basis while they continue to work.

Those without a high school diploma or equivalency will be eligible for services to help them prepare for and complete this credential and go on to a community college or job training program. The application period runs through December 31 of this year with enrollment available beginning in January of 2021.
