I-196 will be closed for
reconstruction from April to early August in
2010, diverting more than 70,000 cars a day.
The
project will certainly have an
impact on downtown Grand Rapids and the region as a place of business and
tourist/visitor destination, but we will benefit
from the improvements to the highway for years to come.
The
Chamber is working with MDOT, business leaders and other stakeholders to
collaborate on properly communicating viable alternative routes to downtown
Grand Rapids for workers and customers of downtown companies and will
be utilizing many tools to ease the
impact of the closure.
The project website is
www.michigan.gov/I-196 and
please
click here for a PowerPoint outlining the closure, some
alternate routes, mitigation measures and some of
the communication tools.
If you would like to schedule a presentation on the project for your employees, clients or tenants, please contact
Andy Johnston at 616.771.0335.
