Do you know an outstanding professional who encourages the opening of leadership opportunities for women in the community's workplaces? The ATHENA Award recognizes an individual for their business or professional accomplishments, community service, mentoring of women and helping women achieve their full potential. Both women and men are eligible to receive the ATHENA Award.

In 2008, the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce awarded for the first time the ATHENA Young Professional Award to honor an emerging leader in our community and will again in 2009. Criteria for the award is similar to that of the ATHENA Award; the differences being that the recipient will be expected to be a role model, as opposed to a mentor, and must be under 40 years of age and have a minimum of five years professional experience.
