The big day is right around the corner when we will bestow the prestigious 2017 ATHENA Award to our ATHENA Young Professionals and our 2017 ATHENA Award recipient, Joan Budden.
Joan is the President and CEO of Priority Health, a health plan nationally recognized for improving the health and lives of the people it serves. She has been instrumental in driving the organization to focus on prevention and quality, while making sure members get the right care, at the right place, at the right time for the right price. As a tenacious advocate for lowering costs for individuals and employers, she has helped Priority Health become Michigan’s fastest-growing health plan. Congratulations Joan!
We are excited to celebrate this event and look forward to another year of honoring women.

The ATHENA Awards Program and ATHENA Young Professional Award are founded on the ATHENA Leadership Model® from ATHENA International, which identifies eight distinct attributes, called the ATHENA Tenets, that are reflective of women’s contributions to leadership: Authentic Self, Relationships, Giving Back, Collaboration, Courageous Acts, Learning, Fierce Advocacy, Celebration and Joy.
Looking back: Many attended the 27th ATHENA Awards Celebration in 2016 for a luncheon steeped in the ATHENA tenets—from Celebration & Joy to Learning, from Authentic Self to Fierce Advocacy. The event included two award presentations and the granting of $4,250 total scholarships to five women over 30 pursuing degrees. Read a 2016 recap with event photos here.
