In 2003, the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce created the Diversity Visionary Award to celebrate and encourage ongoing diversity related efforts and accomplishments.
A Diversity Visionary Award recipient is a person or company that demonstrates excellence and commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion. Their leadership is innovative and persistent, resulting in exemplary initiatives and success within their profession. They elevate and encourage efforts that contribute to a pluralistic and welcoming community.
Nominees must demonstrate two or more of the following characteristics:
- An innovative, effective, and sustained commitment to workforce diversity
- Proven and effective supplier diversity business practices
- Exemplary diversity leadership within their industry and/or community
- The Diversity Visionary Award Celebration is a biennial event held in odd years.
