Bing Goei to be honored with Diversity Visionary Award

Business and community leader Bing Goei, CEO of Eastern Floral and The Goei Center, has been named the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce’s 2011 Diversity Visionary Award recipient!

A successful member of the Grand Rapids business community for nearly 40 years, Mr. Goei is a community leader with a passion and vision for an inclusive community. He is a tireless champion for economic opportunity and inclusion of all people. In 2009, he founded the International Center for Entrepreneurial Excellence at The Goei Center, a business incubator that provides collaborative space and other resources for minority- and woman-owned businesses.

Mr. Goei’s leadership has also had significant impact on community organizations and initiatives, including the Multiracial Association of Professionals, Coalition for Racial and Ethnic Diversity, and the City of Grand Rapids’ Community Relations Commission.

The Diversity Visionary Award is given to a person or organization that demonstrates excellence and commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion, innovative leadership in improving cultural competency and the ability to elevate and encourage ongoing efforts that contribute to a pluralistic and welcoming community.

Mr. Goei will accept the award at the Diversity Visionary Award Celebration on March 29. The dinner begins at 5:30 p.m. and will be held in the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel’s Ambassador Ballroom.

The event will also feature a keynote from Georgianna Melendez, co-director of the Commonwealth Compact, a Massachusetts initiative established to make that state a world leader in diversity and inclusion. Ms. Melendez will speak about the development of the statewide initiative, why more than 200 organizations—including some of the state’s largest businesses—have signed on to be a part of the collaboration and the benchmarking tool they use.

All Chamber members are invited to attend the Diversity Visionary Award Celebration! The Chamber member price is $60 per person, future-member price is $75, and corporate tables of 10 are available for $750. Call 616.771.0303 or visit www.grandrapids.org/visionaryaward.com to register.

Show your support of diversity initiatives in the community by sponsoring this event. Contact Leslee Fritz at 616.771.0357 or fritzl@grandrapids.org for information.
